An attractive TR3A, originally one of the many exported to the USA and then repatriated in 2012, rebuilt and converted to RHD. A nice, usable TR3 which has been improved and is driving well. A classic Triumph to enjoy this summer!

  • Triumph TR3A
  • Chassis No: TS/37604-L
  • Eng No: TS/38087-E (presently TS 80607E)
  • Build: 15 October 1958
  • Mileage: 77,890

In April, the TR3 came into the workshop and we laid in a new wiring loom – peace of mind for the new owner! Whilst on the electrics, this car has a Dynamater fitted – so the period look of a dynamo but the efficiency and capacity of an alternator. The clocks were all checked – as with the remainder of the electrics of course, in the process of which the ammeter was repaired and a ‘dormant’ regulator box fitted (to retain the original looks). Previous invoices show that In May 19 a new clutch was fitted and the owner had the car waxoyl treated for protection – a wise precaution!

Some other parts invoices are on file and then some import details dated 2011, revealing the seller in the USA and a British buyer in Shropshire.
Importantly, the Heritage Certificate is on file, so the production details for this TR3A are all known, also the destination of Baltimore on initial shipping and the last Certificate of Title for the American owner as well.

This TR3A presents well with good body and paintwork – but equally is no ‘trailer queen’! A nice tidy interior, much of which appears new, including the hood frame and hood (in black vinyl) folded and stowed in the boot and the wheels are near-new having also been replaced. Importantly, the underside is very good indeed – a really nice chassis and absolutely no sign of any corrosion – not even light surface discolouration (see images).

She starts easily from cold on choke and drives very well. The steering is slop-free, gearbox nice and positive and engine strong; overall a nice driving experience and one of the better TRs we’ve driven (of many!).

In summary, ‘422 YUN’ is a good quality TR3A, looking smart and driving very well. The weather equipment is near-new and the brightwork is also good, setting off the red paint very well. The new wiring loom and really good, corrosion-free underside following the rebuild give reassurance for the future.
Drive it, enjoy it and grow the history file – a TR3A for the enthusiast and sensible money!
