An opportunity to own a really well sorted - and quick – Frogeye, an original UK RHD car, still with the steel bonnet, and restored by the long-term owner to a fast-road spec with many useful upgrades, including a 5-speed gearbox.

Engine: 1293cc fully rebuilt, balanced, lightened flywheel, Cooper S flat top pistons, fast-road ported head with larger valves (unleaded spec), Piper 285 camshaft; Peter Burgess rolling road tune to 95 BHP at the engine.

Ancillaries: High Inertia starter motor, sports coil, programmable distributor, heated inlet manifold, single HIF6 carburettor & K&N filter, Maniflow LCB manifold plus RC40 silencer, Kenlowe fan.

Transmission: 5-speed Frontline Type 9 gearbox and heavy duty clutch, Peter May race halfshafts, Midget wire wheel axle with MWS wire wheels and Firestone tyres.

Suspension/brakes: uprated anti-roll bar, uprated front coil springs, new kingpins & wishbones, poly bushes, front disc brakes, rear drums, Midget master cylinders (brake & clutch), uprated lever arm shocks all round.

The dash was rebuilt with electronic instruments, including a GPS speedo and a new, period style wiring loom laid-in.  To finish, the interior was re-trimmed in a contrasting light green and full leather seats and Willans 4-point club harnesses and an Everflex soft top and tonneau cover are with the car.

The present owner purchased the Sprite in 1986 as a full restoration project and following restoration ‘TSV’ was back on the road in 1988.  Following some usage and then a period of storage a 2nd, comprehensive restoration was carried out between 2009-12.  This included repairs to the original steel bonnet, replacement A-panels, new doors, rear wheel arches, rear quarter panels, rear valance, boot floor, main floor panels, inner and outer sills etc.  Photos and invoices are all on file.

Following a short period in storage to make space for another project, ‘TSV’ has just been checked over, serviced and has a new MoT test.  As one would expect from the specification above, she is very strong on the road, the 5-speed gearbox, steering, suspension and brakes all upgraded to offer a very complete package and a Frogeye that is a delight to drive.

The cockpit trim is in very good condition, so too the weather equipment.  The brightwork has some slight age deterioration and the paintwork is fair; it is either appropriately patinated or ‘must be done’ depending on your view!

In summary, a rare, original, all-steel RHD Sprite Mk1 and an example which has had much expenditure and detail put into the restoration and upgrades to fast-road mechanical specification.  A Frogeye to drive and enjoy!
