RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner, this 1931 Morris ‘Flat-rad’ Cowley Two-Seater Convertible with Dickey-seat!...

A stunning 1931 Morris Cowley being sold for a local, regular customer of ours – a man passionate about his cars and meticulous in their maintenance and improvement.

KR9199 was rebuilt approx. 5 years ago over a 2-year period and has only covered 3500 miles since.

More recently, she has been further improved in numerous details, especially to ensure both reliability and quality of presentation:

  • Engine rebuild (Cookes of Leicester)
  • Gearbox & rear axle rebuilt with new seals/cork and new clutch
  • New brakes, kingpins
  • Headlamps re-silvered and dimmer switch solenoids replaced
  • New tyres, new battery (12v fitted), new flasher unit
  • Dash and instruments all serviced and rebuilt
  • Starter and dynamo rebuilt and regulator fitted
  • Lucas magneto rebuilt
  • Re-chromed door handles
  • Replacement interior trim (seats, carpets and panels)(stainless screws throughout)
  • All wood checked (see photo of underside)
  • Brookes luggage trunk (and fittings for mounting to the rack)

Accompanying the Morris is a tool kit and jack, a box of spares, a comprehensive history file and a significant ‘library’ of Morris Cowley books, many original:

  • The Morris 11.9 h.p. and 14/28 h.p. Service Information (1928 ed, Morris Motors)
  • The Morris Cowley Car Manual (1931 ed, Morris Motors)
  • Operation Manual for the Morris-Cowley (1932 ed, Morris Motors)
… and about a dozen others.

The present owner has gone to great lengths to maintain and improve KR9199, also verifying the original registration number (letter from the DVLA), cleaning and undersealing the underside, oils all changed, rad drained, flushed and refilled, new plugs, soft-top treated, brakes adjusted and so on.

KR9199 is a lovely Cowley in the attractive blue/black paint and navy blue interior. With nothing needing to be done, starting instantly(!) and driving both quietly and strongly, this is a rare (65 Cowleys of all models left on the road?) and attractive Cowley to own and as a convertible bodied car perfect for the summer!

She has some nice history too – not least being used as a ‘pick-up’ to collect apples in a Kent orchard before being restored!
