RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner: 1980 Austin Mini, 1098cc, Project to Complete ...

A 1980 Mini MkIV which has been stripped and rebuilt and as part of the restoration also been modified to evoke an earlier Mini with some Cooper-style attributes, e.g. rear lights, bootlid etc.

Spec/details:

  • Reg: VWM 662V
  • Chassis No: XC2S1N00690474
  • First Reg: 24 Mar 80
  • 4 prev owners

A project car coming to the present owner from a late friend’s estate, sadly, with a significant amount of work completed and much either new or refurbished.  Importantly, the previous owner completed an engine rebuild and the present owner has carried out a body re-shell.  There is a spares pack with the car including instruments, a donor dash - which the owner intended to convert into a new dash which would incorporate the fitted Weber box (which rules out a central main instrument), a spare set of wheels and other items with more in the car.

She starts and drives and has been up on our ramp for an inspection.  Here is a summary of the condition and an idea of the work required:

  • Bodyshell: completely stripped, repaired, prepped and painted.  The only obvious work needed is a small repair to the very front of both floorpans (on the fold as they kick upwards) where there is slight damage – quite possibly from careless jacking (photo).
  • Drivetrain: all-new rear sub-frame, new hubs, new brake components, piping, etc.
  • Engine & gearbox: fully rebuilt, Weber conversion, new ancillaries, all-new Maniflow exhaust.
  • Wiring loom: original but in good condition.
  • Interior:  mostly in-place, needs finishing (dash especially), a 2nd set of sports seats is with the car.
  • Extras/additions:  dash (not Mini), instruments, stainless trim (brightwork), new wheels + spare set, other minor items, fittings etc (photo).

In summary, a relatively easy project to complete with much of the hard work done.  Someone who knows Minis and is mechanically capable would be well-suited to take her on.  The drivetrain and brakes etc needs checking over (for safety) and then the dash making up and fitting.

The V5C is present (no other history) and she starts and drives; we have not MoT tested her given the incomplete state of the dash and instrumentation.  She will need to be trailered away.

Price: SOLD
