RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner 1972 MGB Roadster: ‘PTC 150K’...

A good quality example of the ever-popular MGB Roadster, looking very smart in Tartan Red paintwork and ‘Minilite’-style alloy wheels. A local MGB, albeit a new car to us yet having just been freshly serviced and MoT tested, so we have good knowledge of this MGB’s condition and recent work.

Details:

  • Chassis No: GHN5 287438G
  • Eng No: 18V582-H8532
  • First reg: 1 July 1972
  • MoT test: 24 June 21
  • Mileage: 88,565

ship since 2012, there is a neat history folder showing all expenditure and MoT certificates during that time, also a spare key set and some repro-tax discs showing June 1973 i.e. as though for the first year of tax!

This Tartan Red MGB looks very smart - a very attractive colour for the Roadster. Both body and paintwork are in very good condition with very few if any blemishes (see photo for one small split to paint on rear deck) and the swage line trim runs nice and level – not often seen on MGBs in our experience! The owner happened across this louvre’d bonnet and felt it would suit the car whilst also of course aiding cooling. The Minilite-style alloys are almost perfect and fitted with MG centre caps, chrome wheelnuts and alloy valve covers – all very smart – and matching tyres are fitted all around. The bumpers have some weathering to them and would benefit from an hour or two of metal polish and fine wire wool we think but the fastidious may feel a new pair of bumpers would just finish the car nicely; your call! In addition, the earlier all ‘silver’ radiator grille has been retro-fitted as this look is preferred by many owners.

In the cockpit, everything looks very smart with no obvious damage or work needed. There are some upgrades too with alloy winder and pull-handles on the door cards, an alloy, MG-logo’d gearknob and the smart and very tactile wood/alloy steering wheel – not a cheap upgrade! In the centre there is an upgraded console with a 12v power supply socket – perfect for phone charging and satnav whilst touring and an LED tell-back light for the alarm (fob on each key set). On the upper dash is a fixing plate for a satnav or other accessory.

Behind the seats is a courtesy-lead for the CTEK trickle charger – especially convenient when the battery compartment is a fiddle to access – and the CTEK should ensure a fully charge and ready to go at all times! Three-point static belts are fitted and the support bar for the full tonneau cover is fitted in place with the hood frame and hood underneath. The hood – having rarely if ever been used by the current owner – has splits to the rear quarter Perspex panels but is otherwise in good condition – certainly OK for occasional use, especially if one is predominantly using the full-length tonneau cover for cover during showery stops or overnight stays.

In the boot is some near-new carpet and tidy paintwork with no signs of corrosion in any of the usual places. There is no spare wheel fitted as one of the benefits of the alloys is that one can choose to run tubeless tyres and a ‘Tyre-weld’ kit, as the present owner does. For peace of mind, a locking fuel cap has been fitted.

Overall a very attractive Tartan Red MGB Roadster and benefitting from several cosmetic and practical upgrades. Not only looking very smart but driving nicely too with easy starting, nice smooth gearchange, brisk engine (good oil pressure and low/normal temperature) and the so-practical Overdrive. Whilst more in-depth history would be beneficial, the folder with paperwork since 2012 is good to have and our own recent service, inspection and MoT suggests a good quality, ‘drive-away’ MGB Roadster.
