RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner this stunning MGA 3.9l V8 Roadster!...

USJ 243, a 1961 MGA Roadster, has been beautifully engineered into a ‘mini-Cobra’ – the quality of the work has to be seen to be fully appreciated and no detail has been overlooked! Perhaps not for the purist, but if you seek a powerful, seriously fast roadster yet with the elegance of the 50s, read on!

Specification overview:

  • Rover 3.9, fully balanced engine, gas-flowed head, oil cooler
  • Holley carb & Offenhauser manifold
  • Kent cam and timing chain kits, Mallory electronic (revertible) distributor
  • Custom made polished aluminium radiator and expansion tank; extensive stainless fixings; electric fan with cockpit over-ride, original (rare) ‘Le Mans’ headlights
  • Rover SD1 5-spd gearbox with steady-bar, custom mounts, stainless bolts and shortened gear lever
  • Stainless exhaust system with single silencer each side, 2-inch pipes and side exit exhausts, manifolds heat wrapped
  • Fully upgraded running gear, including MGC 3.3 LSD, Spax adjustable shock absorbers and ‘tramp bars’ (rear) and MGB coil-over shock conversion, negative camber and MGB stub axles to front
  • TR6 15” wheels and tyres, MGB GT V8 brakes with servo and drilled discs (front)
  • Bespoke wiring loom (with diagram)
  • Custom made steering column, MGB GTV8 conversion and custom items
  • Bespoke dash with many upgrades, including single windscreen wipe, hidden radio and more
  • Keyless running with ‘secret’ sequence of isolator switches to start and run the car!
  • Biscuit leather and upholstery trim, including tonneau, sidescreens and hood (frame in stainless) and genuine ‘Les Leston’ period steering wheel
  • Stunning bodywork and ‘Rosu Red’ paint, superficially standard but actually alloy wings all round with bespoke rear wings to incorporate the wider wheels, bolt-in inner wings, modified duct panel, rad brackets, and new sills, alloy boot/bonnet lids and door skins; custom-made front valance and rear over-the-boot luggage rack

This is no ordinary ‘amateur’ conversion; this amazing project has been fully documented with detailed build records, including a photographic record, file of invoices and wiring diagram. Testament to the build quality, ‘USJ’ feels really ‘together’ on the road – always a good sign!

If you like the beautiful 50s styling of the MGA but want a car which is seriously quick yet equally happy to burble along in the lanes (the exhaust note is fabulous!), and a classic that certainly turns heads, then look no further!
