RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner this stunning 1988 Mercedes 420SL Auto Roadster (R107)...

Coming from the estate of the 4th and long-term owner (since July 1998), now sadly deceased, is this stunning Mercedes 420SL Auto in Diamond Blue (diamintblau) Metallic with grey leather, dark blue hood and matching factory hardtop. The 420SL is a rare model with only circa 350 believed to remain on the road in the UK.

  • First Reg: 1 Aug 88
  • Chassis No: WDB1070472A089314
  • Eng No: 11696422001901
  • MoT test valid to 21 October 2016

A very smart SL always owned in the Bristol area and purchased from Mercedes as a used car by the previous owner before a comprehensive check and purchase by the current (family). This is a high-spec car with the matching diamond blue factory hardtop, grey leather vice MB-Tex seats, tinted glass, drop-down parcel shelf over rear +2 seats and auto gearbox.

An extensive history file accompanies the car and whilst this Mercedes was used regularly by the lady-owner, it has been well maintained by local specialists. The history file shows numerous invoices, old MoT certificates (circa 2500 miles/pa), ownership history and so on.

Major work:

  • Front & rear wheel arches and front wing repairs in 2008
  • Full under-body check, clean off and waxoyl in late 2015

Please note that this Mercedes was originally registered as F915WON and that the present cherished number plate will not be sold with the car but kept on retention unless the purchaser wishes to agree a separate purchase of the ‘8BTA’ registration.

This 420SL looks stunning, the Diamond Blue paint really suits the car. Amazingly there are no dings, dents or scrapes to the body or paintwork and it has detailed very well. The grey leather and wool carpet trim is in very good condition and having now replaced the centre wood console, the veneer detailing is also very smart. The alloy wheels are in very good condition indeed with little if any degradation and all shod with good tyres. The brightwork presents very well with little or no sign of aging or deterioration.

‘8 BTA‘ drives very nicely. The engine shows strong oil pressure, both after start and when warm. She starts immediately and moves away with a gear change which is nice and smooth. The steering is direct and yet dead-ahead neutral, the brakes are strong and even. Overall, in the leather and wood cockpit it is a delightful driving experience, no matter whether proceeding slowly or rather more briskly!

This is a 420SLwhich looks very nice and offers a car to be proud of, to cherish but also to enjoy!
