A very smart Diamond Blue (diamintblau) Metallic Mercedes 420SL Auto with grey leather, dark blue hood and original factory hardtop. The 420SL is a rare model with only circa 350 believed to remain on the road in the UK. Sold by us a little while ago from the estate of the 4th owner (since 1998) and now available again unexpectedly due to illness.

A very smart SL owned for most of its life in the Bristol area and purchased from Mercedes as an approved used car and then in long-term lady-ownership before sale to the present owner. This is a high-spec car with the matching diamond blue factory hardtop, grey leather (vice cloth) seats, tinted glass, drop-down parcel shelf over rear +2 seats, electric windows, central locking and 4-speed auto.

An extensive history file accompanies the car, providing evidence that this 420SL was both used regularly and also well maintained. Following purchase by the present owner, ‘WON’ has been driven and enjoyed yet also further improved, it having been his intention to keep her long-term.

Recent work:

  • Full under-body check, clean off and waxoyl (late 2015)
  • New windscreen (top tint)
  • Paint respray to hood-cover, boot lid
  • New window seals, boot-lid tension springs
  • New Retro CD-Radio with Bluetooth/MP2/USB etc & Aerial (original with car)
  • New soft-top Perspex windows (all 3)
  • MoT Test (Oct 17) and service and minor rectification

The 420SL looks stunning in Diamond Blue and both the body (galvanised) and paintwork are in very good condition. The grey leather, wool carpet and wood trimmed interior provide for a smart interior and includes a new centre wood console. The 15-hole alloys are all in very good condition and shod with good tyres. The brightwork presents very well with little or no sign of aging.

‘WON’ drives very nicely. She starts immediately with strong oil pressure – straight to the full 3 bars - and moves away with a nice and smooth gear change. The steering is smooth and direct, the brakes are strong and even, the V8 strong. In summary, this is a very smart 420SL which needs nothing for the foreseeable future. The comprehensive history file and owner extras (charger, cover, hardtop stand) simply add to the package; a Mercedes to be proud of and to enjoy!
