Purchased by the present owner and vendor in 2014 from the long-term owner of 28 years, this Historic and tax-free Austin-Healey Sprite has undergone a thorough, bare-metal, ground-up restoration. Mechanically the car has the correct 1275cc-spec engine fitted which has been fully stripped and rebuilt, along with reconditioned carburettors, an overhauled rear axle (differential and half-shafts) and overhauled gearbox, along with new brake and fuel systems and a new wiring loom.

Spoked wheels with new tyres and new chrome spinners are also fitted. Finally, the cockpit is finished with seat belts and a lovely wood/alloy steering wheel. As we understand it, 66503 was originally exported – perhaps by a British Serviceman – and then brought back into the UK and registered in 1971. Passing into long-term ownership (28 years), the present owner then embarked on the full nut and bolt restoration and concurrent conversion to Sebring bodyshape. The Dan Dare hardtop offers an attractive coupe experience for all-round motoring yet retaining the quick and easy option for removal and full, open-air summer motoring! ‘GBJ’ has only 934 running-in miles since the restoration and remains as-restored this making for an attractive purchase with no foreseeable expenditure required and a car which is sure to generate plenty of interest at local shows and club meetings!
