‘CPF’ is a very presentable Big Healey in the iconic Colorado Red paint. The chassis appears straight, strong and corrosion free, testament to the heated storage during the last 2 owners’ tenure. The brightwork is also good and the 72-spoke chrome wires ‘fair’ but with good Michelin XZX tyres all round. The interior trim shows patina and whilst perfectly acceptable could also be improved if so desired whilst the vinyl hood is fully serviceable.
Mechanically, she has been well cared for. The present owner has been a multiple Austin-Healey owner and capable of the majority of maintenance tasks. Upgrades include an unleaded head conversion and rebuilt SU carbs as well as a high-torque starter motor for easier starting. On the road, ‘CPF’ drives very nicely – pulling strongly through the gears with a slick, positive change, also slop-free responsive steering and good, even brakes. To complete the driving experience, the Denis Welch side-exit exhaust gives off a fabulous note! With few owners and never restored, this is a desirable BJ8 and especially so in the very rare Ph1 standard. ‘CPF’ offers an opportunity to purchase a very usable Healey 3000 which can be either used as-is or further improved – it is very much your choice!
