RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner this Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II Convertible (BJ7) - EAD452A...

The car’s records and history file show that this Healey was exported to the USA following production at Abingdon and then re-imported to the UK in 1990. The owner and restorer was John Varley, a name immediately associated with Big Healey work, who carried out the restoration and conversion to RHD in 1993 before the car was sold to Mr Clive Cuss (a local classic car enthusiast well-known to us, by coincidence). EAD 452A then changed hands in January 2007 and has been with the present owner since, where it has been further improved – some work carried out by the famous John Chatham – and enjoyed.

There is a BMIHT dating letter which confirms:

  • Chassis No: H-BJ7-L/23544
  • Austin-Healey Mark II Convertible
  • Manufactured in Abingdon in 1963

Specification & History:

  • First registered in the UK on 1 May 1993
  • MoT certificates back to the first test in the UK in 1993
  • Michelin XAS 180HR15 (full set of 5) on 72-spoke wheels
  • Carb rebuild in June 13
  • Stainless steel exhaust system
  • John Chatham suspension and steering setup, other minor work
  • Regular maintenance and parts invoices
  • New MoT test (valid to April 24th 2016)

EAD 452A is a typical ‘older restoration’ with some deterioration evident to the ‘Colorado Red’ paintwork but equally it is also obvious that the restoration was carried out to a high standard with good panel gaps and fit. EAD is a mechanically sound and well cared for car that is driving well and would therefore suit a purchaser looking for an affordable ‘Big Healey’ to drive and enjoy or indeed to improve. With the latter in mind, a full respray would return the car to pristine condition and that work would of course be reflected in its subsequent value (this could be carried out prior to delivery).

With relatively little mileage in the past year or two, EAD is now being sold for the next owner to enjoy. With the Mark II Convertible’s fully fitted weather equipment, wind up windows and +2 seating, this makes for a very practical and usable Big Healey.
