RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale ‘WKE 947’, Austin-Healey 100/4 BN2...

An opportunity to own a rare BN2 Healey 100 and a car which has been well-campaigned in road events and now fully rebuilt, including a new chassis and all-alloy front bodywork.  An original, Heritage Certificate, UK Home Market Healey 100 and the rare BN2 model.  In superb mechanical condition having been optimised for road rally use including a significantly upgraded engine, now rated at 129bhp and 174 lb/ft yet remaining perfectly suitable for ordinary road use and touring.

Details:

  • Chassis No: BN2/228970
  • Built: 18 October 1955
  • First registered: 21 October 1955
  • Present ownership since June 2000
  • MoT Test: 14 June 2018

Spec:alloy Denis Welch cylinder head with 3000 valves and uprated springs, polished ports (running at 8.2 compr ratio); Piper ‘Ultimate Road Cam’(276); crank at 0.010 under (1st grind); tubular exhaust manifold and side-exit exhaust; Mallory distributor; 2x HD6 carbs (no fuel vaporisation) and M-spec cold-air box; new clutch, prop and 3.9 rear axle; rear springs reset and re-tempered; uprated ARB and dampers with uprated valves.

‘WKE’ has just completed a full rebuild.  Following a collapse of the front right suspension, the decision was taken to rebuild the car onto a new chassis and in the course of doing so to return it to largely original specification.  Both front wings are lightweight alloy (matching the shroud of course) and all panels have either been repaired or replaced (photo record).  A new wiring loom has been fitted, along with a new dash and much of the interior and all of the boot trim.  In the course of the rebuild, all perishables have been replaced (grommits etc) and all items checked and serviced (where required) prior to reassembly (invoices available for all work).

‘WKE ‘is available with a bespoke deep-red cloth tonneau, soft-top (not fitted), sidescreens and has a ‘Derrington’ style steering wheel fitted.  She is running on front disc brakes and silver 72-spoke wheels shod with the excellent Avon CR6 ZZ tyre option.  There is an option to purchase a 2nd set of wheels which have been painted in a slightly contrasting green (4x 72-spoke + 48-spoke spare, all fitted with Michelin XAS).

The present owner (of 17 years) purchased the car and set about creating a fast-road spec car and a car which could be relied upon on long-distance road events such as regularities.  Used in that way for many years now, she is very reliable, smooth to drive and markedly quicker than even an M-spec car, with particularly impressive torque.

In summary, a freshly rebuilt Healey 100 with lightweight front end and benefitting from a new chassis.  Very well spec’d mechanically with a particularly strong engine and other mechanicals and the majority of trim is new.  An extensive history file accompanies the car along with a touring spares pack, hammer and jack.  An opportunity to buy a corrosion-free and fast Healey 100 BN2!
