RetroMarques is pleased to offer for sale on behalf of the owner 1989 Porsche 944 S2 Coupe ‘G447 LWD’...

A very smart 944 and believed quite rare in the Velvet Red Metallic paint set off with the Linen/Black interior trim. This is the S2, with the 3.0-litre, 211bhp engine specification. In the present ownership for 4 years and evidently a very well cared-for 944, indeed the local Porsche specialist has stated it is one of the best he has seen!

The extensive history will show the quality of care that has been lavished on it. There is a framed Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and the original Porsche wallet of handbooks. Two large ring-binders of paperwork detail the history .

  • First reg: 1 August 1989
  • Paint: LM3U Velvet Red Met (Samtrotmetallic)
  • Trim: Leatherette Linen/Black with Pinstripe/Linen Inlays

  • MoT: 14 March 2022
  • Mileage: 152,774 miles

The history file has a folder with all paperwork in the present ownership and summary sheet of all work/purchases during that time (from Oct 2017), so as well as routine servicing, clutch slave cylinder, wheel purchase/refurb/new tyres (16-inch wheels with correct Continental tyres), belt change, new windscreen, body & paintwork (sills), engine mounts and plenty more is all listed, with the last service in February of 2021. A 2nd folder details the history in previous ownership.

On first impression, this 944 looks ‘right’, sitting well and with no obvious signs of damage or panel-misalignment. Closer inspection shows generally good paintwork with some light stone-chip damage to the front bumper and front/rear of the sills, as might be expected (photos) but otherwise pleasingly dent-free.

The alloys are pristine save for one small blemish on one wheel and the Continentals fitted appear near-new. The boot is all original with the spare wheel, compressor kit and tool-roll all present. The luggage cover/blind is in good condition and working normally. Importantly, the inner body panels are nice and clean with no evidence of corrosion.

The interior trim is in surprisingly good condition for the car’s age and mileage and there is no sign of water ingress. The seats are in good condition with little or no wear to the driver’s bolster, good door cards and the dash, centre-console and switches all present well. There is a replacement Blaupunkt unit fitted and the receiver slot for the immobiliser next to the ignition but otherwise all appears original and unmodified. The sunroof tilts correctly and can be lifted out completely and stowed in the boot – the protective bag is present.

The engine bay is tidy with clear evidence of service work. The plastic trim is in good condition and we can see no evidence of corrosion, including behind the light assemblies inside the wings.

On road-test she starts easily, pulling away cleanly and with a nice slick gearchange. Slop-free steering, good brakes and a strong, eager engine all make for an enjoyable, sporty ride. The S2’s 3.0, 16-valve, 211bhp engine is close to Turbo performance and she feels quicker than the book figures would suggest!

In summary, this is a smart, usable, unmolested 944 S2 which would give much pleasure to an enthusiast owner. The extensive history adds value, desirability and peace of mind. The rare paint colour will appeal to many – rather more understated than the usual Guards Red – and the tasteful interior and bonus of the sunroof will add to the pleasure when driving it. A 944 to both enjoy and cherish; buy now before values rise further!
